The Crew
EPGP Explained
(effort points/gear points)
All members who raid in Crew must understand EPGP your gearing depends on this and this is how the guild will distribute loot during Guild Raids.
Why are we use this weird DKP system
Before deciding on the system that Crew was going to use, We
researched many different variations of DKP out there.
The main things we wanted out of the system was:
- Reward members that raid often
- Allow new members that join to be able to start receiving gear as soon
as possible - but only after they have shown interest in raiding
reasonably often.
- Protect against DKP hoarding
- Have a system that's easy to maintain (don't need to assign various
different values to gear and bosses)
- A system that distributes loot reasonably evenly across raiders, but
often giving core raiders the first option.
What we found was that EPGP, which is a pretty weird system, but from
studying the various systems sounded and looked to be the most fair and
easiest to maintain.
It's in no way perfect, but looking at gear distribution we believe it
will work reasonable well.
What is EPGP ?
Crew has decided on using EPGP as our looting system when
raiding.
The system comprises of mainly 3 parts:br />
1. EP (Effort Points) works in the same fashion as DKP. You get points
for achieving certain things like arriving on time, Boss Kills etc.
Unlike typical DKP systems, these points are never spent, but they do
decay over a period of time.
2. Every time you receive loot during the raid you will earn GP (Gear
Points).
3. To help determine who gets a piece of loot, PR is used. PR (priority
rating) is determined by your EP divided by your GP. The person with the
highest PR will get have first option on the loot, and their GP will be
increased. This then effectively lowers the persons PR points.
Whenever 2 or more people want a piece of loot, PR is used to determine
who get's the loot.
An example
3 Players enter a Raid each starting with 50 EP points and a GP of 1.
Let's say they are all the same class and spec, so they will be rolling
for the same piece of equipment.
| | EP | | GP | | PR | |
| Player 1 | | 50 | | 1 | | 50 |
| Player 2 | | 50 | | 1 | | 50 |
| Player 3 | | 50 | | 1 | | 50 |
Now, these players all kill the first boss and a piece of loot drops (worth 30 GP). Everyone gets +25 to their EP, and seeing that everyone has the same PR rating, all three need rolls on it, and Player 1 wins.
The standings now look as follows:
| | EP | | GP | | PR | |
| Player 1 | | 75 | | 31 | | 2.41 |
| Player 2 | | 75 | | 1 | | 75 |
| Player 3 | | 75 | | 1 | | 75 |
As you can see, Player 2 and 3 are now next in line to receive loot, and Player 1 will have to wait for them before it's his turn again - as his PR is now lower.
Let's do 1 more iteration, where Player 2 wins a piece of loot worth 30 GP on a Boss Kill again.
| | EP | | GP | | PR | |
| Player 1 | | 100 | | 31 | | 3.22 |
| Player 2 | | 100 | | 31 | | 3.22 |
| Player 3 | | 100 | | 1 | | 75 |
Now, Player 3 who hasn't received loot as yet is in line for the next piece of loot, and Player 1 and 2 have an even PR rating again.
How it works during raids
EP is assigned at the end of each evening's raid and updated on the
website within 24 hours of the raid taking place. At the beginning of a
scheduled raid, the latest PR standings are downloaded from the website.
When a piece of loot drops, the PR standings are loaded into a module so
that the loot master has access to this information. The item is linked
in chat and bids are placed by those who want it.
A raid warning is issued with 'Bids starting on [epic item] /w [LootMaster]
with !bid x (where x is the amount you wish to bid'.
For Primary Raiding Role : /w Lootmastername !bid 2
For Secondary Raiding Role : /w Lootmastername !bid 1
For Outside raiding purposes : /w Lootmastername !bid 0
Please note: Your PR is a rating, based on the number of EP and GP
points you have earned. Bidding more than 1 will not make it more likely
that you will receive an item. The PR rating of the people that bid for
the item will determine who gets it.
An example:
RaidX has earned 350 EP points over the last 6 raids and she has
received 2 items worth 15 GP each, therefore, her GP is sitting on 30.
Her PR for the current raid is 350/30 = 11.67
RaidY has earned 320 EP in the raids he's attended, but has received
only 1 item during that time. Therefore, his PR for the current raid is
320/15 = 21.33
Both RaidX and RaidY are interested in [epic healing mace]. Both whisper
[Lootmaster] with !bid 1. RaidY has the higher PR, therefore, he
gets the item for 15 GP.
Updated PR ratings are:
RaidX 350/30 = 11.67
RaidY 320/30 = 10.67 - GP for the item just received is now added to the
rating.
When the next [epic loot item] drops, that both RaidX and RaidY are
interested in the updated PR rating will make it likely for RaidX to
receive the item as their PR rating is higher.
Please note: EP is only assigned after the end of the raid, while GP is
updated immediately on receiving an item within a specific raid. This
ensures more even loot distribution within a given raid.
